Imbalance of electricity

  - General concepts

Electricity imbalance is the difference between projected and actual electricity supply / consumption volumes. According to the legislation of Ukraine, the electricity supplier is financially responsible for the imbalance and is obliged to form hourly schedules of projected leave by the generating unit. An imbalance can be avoided, provided that the deviation of the hourly forecast from the actual holiday does not exceed 5% of the forecast.

 - Imbalance market and balancing market

Quite often these concepts are mistakenly combined into one, but there are differences.

In the balancing market, electricity producers interact with the Transmission System Operator of NEC Ukrenergo without electricity suppliers. Accordingly, electricity suppliers operate in an imbalance market, where they have the opportunity to buy scarce electricity and sell surpluses. In this case, when buying electricity, its price will be higher because it consists of the highest price of the balancing market and the market "day ahead" (RDN) and multiplied by 1 + Kim, where Kim is the imbalance price factor regulated by the NERC. Suppliers will be able to sell surplus electricity at a lower price, focusing on the lowest price of the balancing market and RDN, multiplied by a factor of 1 + Kim.

Balancing in the market of imbalances is based on total sales / purchases, and not specifically for each consumer of electricity, which allows electricity suppliers with a large number of consumers to compensate for each other's imbalances.

- Conclusion:

Since the imbalance of electricity is formed by the deviation of the hourly forecast and actual release of electricity, which is mainly due to external factors (snow, dust, breakage, etc.), you need a system for estimating, calculating and making adjustments to forecasts. PVcontrol is developing a system for working with forecasts, which will allow:

1. In a single interface, estimate the deviation of projected and actual volumes.

2. Calculate adjustments for forecasts.

3. Calculate the conditional % of imbalance for previous time periods.

4. Generate reports on imbalances.
